que me conduce a pensar la figura del\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hiroshi KONDO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En mi carrera doctoral he trabajado con el pueblo ind\u00edgena Ember\u00e1 en la regi\u00f3n del Dari\u00e9n, Panam\u00e1. Aqu\u00ed me gustar\u00eda hablar del pueblo Ember\u00e1 en t\u00e9rminos de una figura etnogr\u00e1fica que desde hace tiempo me ha sido de inter\u00e9s, la figura que los Embera llaman \u201c<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u201d. Obviamente, este t\u00e9rmino viene de la palabra en espa\u00f1ol \u201ccimarr\u00f3n\u201d, que significa una entidad fugitiva, ya sea animal dom\u00e9stico o esclavo. La palabra que originalmente deriva de la lengua los Arawak describe algunos aspectos de las vidas de los Ember\u00e1 y las historias de la regi\u00f3n donde trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>El Dari\u00e9n se ubica al sur occidental en el territorio de Panam\u00e1, la mayor\u00eda de cuyo superficie est\u00e1 cubierto por los bosques que alcanzan a llegar hasta el pa\u00eds lim\u00edtrofe, Colombia, donde viven los Ember\u00e1. La zona del otro lado de la frontera en Colombia se llama Choc\u00f3, y se ha caracterizado por su marginalidad frente a otras partes de dicho pa\u00eds, al igual que el Dari\u00e9n en Panam\u00e1. La zona donde residen los Embera se extiende a los dos pa\u00edses, cuya frontera nacional fue establecida tras la independencia de la rep\u00fablica de Panam\u00e1 (En adelante voy a usar la palabra \u201clos Ember\u00e1\u201d para referirme a los que viven en Panam\u00e1 y \u201clos Embera\u201d a todos los grupos, incluidos \u201clos Ember\u00e1\u201d, esto porque en Colombia la palabra Embera tiene otra entonaci\u00f3n, adem\u00e1s en t\u00e9rminos de auto- identificaci\u00f3n los Embera se dividen en cuatro grupos: Embera-katio, Embera-cham\u00ed, Embera-d\u00f3bida y empera).<\/p>\n<p>Los Embera son conocidos por su movilidad, o habilidad de dispersi\u00f3n. Los antepasados de los actuales Ember\u00e1 paname\u00f1os tambi\u00e9n vivieron en las zonas chocoanas del alto r\u00edo San Juan, el r\u00edo Atrato y los afluentes del r\u00edo Baud\u00f3, cuando llegaron ah\u00ed los conquistadores a comienzos del siglo XVI. En el siglo XVIII la presencia de los Ember\u00e1 (entonces llamados como \u201clos Choc\u00f3\u201d) fue reconocida en el istmo por los espa\u00f1oles, y hacia finales del siglo XIX se increment\u00f3 la migraci\u00f3n de los Ember\u00e1 hacia ah\u00ed (cf. Torres de Ara\u00faz 1966). Entre tanto, en Colombia, las comunidades de los Embera se establecieron en diversos departamentos del pa\u00eds como Choc\u00f3, Antioquia, Santander, C\u00f3rdoba, Risaralda, Caldas, Valle de Cauca, Cauca, Nari\u00f1o, Meta, Caquet\u00e1 y Putumayo (a\u00fan me falta mayor conocimiento para explicar c\u00f3mo fueron estos procesos hist\u00f3ricos).<\/p>\n<p>Una parte de estos movimientos de dispersi\u00f3n se explican por sus experiencias durante la \u00e9poca colonial, aunque no sea la \u00fanica raz\u00f3n. Con la llegada de los conquistadores, durante el primer per\u00edodo colonial, la regi\u00f3n Choc\u00f3 era inconquistable por las condiciones del clima, la geograf\u00eda y la resistencia de los pueblos originarios. Hubo diversas formas de resistencia: levantamientos, sabotajes y dispersi\u00f3n hacia donde no llegaran los colonizadores. Fue en la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada del siglo XVII que se estableci\u00f3 en la colonia el extractivismo minero de oro en esa zona y trajo consigo la esclavitud de los afrodescendientes. El dominio colonial aument\u00f3 el movimiento de escape entre los esclavos afros y los Embera, lo que Patricia Vargas llama \u201ccimarronismo\u201d (Vargas 1998: 297) , el cual podemos entenderlo como un poder de salir del sufrimiento y del dominio injusto a manos de otros.<\/p>\n<p>Las direcciones de huida de los Embera fueron diversas, lo cual contribuy\u00f3 a la diferenciaci\u00f3n entre los Embera hoy en d\u00eda. Una de estas direcciones fue hacia el norte de Choc\u00f3, en donde el dominio colonial era relativamente d\u00e9bil. Los descendientes de este grupo habr\u00edan llegado al istmo despu\u00e9s. Aunque las experiencias durante la \u00e9poca colonial de los Embera fueron diversas y no pueden reducirse a una imagen t\u00edpica (cf. Werner 2000, Vargas 1998), el grupo que sali\u00f3 hacia el norte se acerca m\u00e1s a ese car\u00e1cter de cimarronismo.<\/p>\n<p>Moverse como cimarr\u00f3n<em>\u00a0<\/em>ha sido una forma de \u201ccontra-conducir\u201d, en sentido foucauldiano, es decir un ejercicio de poder de uno frente al ejercicio de poder del otro. Esta forma de poder abri\u00f3 posibilidad a los Ember\u00e1 para vivir en el Dari\u00e9n. Un hombre ember\u00e1 del Dari\u00e9n me explic\u00f3 el origen de ellos como descendientes de los cimarrones, quienes escaparon de una torre hecha por los espa\u00f1oles, donde los cautivos eran forzados a trabajar hasta la muerte. \u201cSi no hubieran salido esos hombres de all\u00ed, no estar\u00edamos aqu\u00ed hoy en d\u00eda\u201d, me cont\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2605<\/p>\n<p>Hoy en d\u00eda no es com\u00fan la movilidad por la cual se han establecido en otros lugares para vivir entre ellos, aunque s\u00ed, sigue vi\u00e9ndose la movilidad inter-comunidades o la inmigraci\u00f3n a las ciudades. La mayor\u00eda de las comunidades se han establecido dentro del territorio demarcado y el resto ha buscado con las condiciones semejantes a las primeras. En Panam\u00e1, existe un aparato administrativo llamado \u201ccomarca\u201d, que corresponde a las \u00e1reas designadas a las comunidades ind\u00edgenas. La comarca es un tipo de distrito administrativo con su propia limitaci\u00f3n geogr\u00e1fica y cuerpos administrativos, los cuales son reconocidos por el Estado a trav\u00e9s de una ley especial para cada comarca. Los cuerpos administrativos est\u00e1n conformados exclusivamente por personas de las comunidades dentro del \u00e1rea demarcada y se le reconoce el derecho colectivo al pueblo organizado.<\/p>\n<p>En las comunidades de la comarca Ember\u00e1-Wounaan, est\u00e1 formada una propia t\u00e9cnica de demarcaci\u00f3n. Se organiza peri\u00f3dicamente un trabajo colectivo llamado \u201climpieza del l\u00edmite\u201d. Este nombre expresa claramente su objetivo: limpiar la frontera de la comarca para que personas ajenas lo puedan ver, lo sepan y no lo pasen (o que sepan que si pasan deben salir inmediatamente). Si no se limpia el l\u00edmite, lo cubrir\u00e1 la vegetaci\u00f3n y se desaparecer\u00e1 en el paisaje. Limpiar es una acci\u00f3n para actualizar el poder de la ley en la vida cotidiana. La l\u00ednea que aparece en el paisaje demuestra su poder de limitar el movimiento de ajenos.<\/p>\n<p>En de una comunidad de la comarca Ember\u00e1 y Wounaan, esta t\u00e9cnica de demarcaci\u00f3n ha sido adoptada para las l\u00edmites de parcelas agr\u00edcolas, aunque la forma no es la misma. En el contexto agr\u00edcola, la demarcaci\u00f3n entre los due\u00f1os de parcelas se realiza de forma virtual. Se aprovechan \u00e1rboles grandes o caminos como marcadores del punto de referencia o una parte de los l\u00edmites. Las l\u00edneas de demarcaci\u00f3n que rondan una parcela, la cual se ha abierto para la horticultura y donde la vegetaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 recubriendo continuamente, no aparecen directamente en el paisaje. Sin embargo, los l\u00edmites son reconocidos entre los due\u00f1os por acuerdo com\u00fan. Este tipo de l\u00ednea virtual, que demanda una interpretaci\u00f3n del paisaje, tiene el efecto de mantener una parcela como propiedad y limitar su uso por parte de otros due\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Hay otra forma de l\u00ednea virtual, que demuestra igualmente el efecto de restringir el posible uso por otros. Recientemente, se cambi\u00f3 la forma de abrir una nueva parcela y mantenerla como propiedad. Cuando los due\u00f1os abren una nueva, lo hacen al lado de las que ya han abierto anteriormente. Este nuevo manejo ha sido adaptado \u201cpara ordenar el uso de la tierra\u201d y evitar conflictos entre due\u00f1os, seg\u00fan ellos. Las parcelas pegadas una tras otra est\u00e1n colocadas en fila para que se queden ordenadas en forma de l\u00ednea directa y no se crucen las l\u00edneas. Ocupar una zona libre que est\u00e9 en la extensi\u00f3n de la l\u00ednea de alg\u00fan otro due\u00f1o se considera una acci\u00f3n de alerta o invasi\u00f3n, ya que esa zona se muestra reservada para el due\u00f1o en el futuro. Si se siguiera dando el manejo que ten\u00edan anteriormente, los lugares libres estar\u00edan disponibles para cualquier persona. Ahora las parcelas se han convertido en una especie de l\u00ednea virtual, que supuestamente puede extenderse.<\/p>\n<p>En otras comunidades donde se han puesto en marcha los negocios de madera sostenible con la colaboraci\u00f3n de ONG, los l\u00edmites de la zona se hacen m\u00e1s pol\u00e9micos. La implementaci\u00f3n de este proyecto en las comunidades se bas\u00f3 en un proyecto de desarrollo sostenible que estableci\u00f3 la divisi\u00f3n de las zonas seg\u00fan el uso. Esto se defini\u00f3 como \u201cordenamiento territorial\u201d y se hizo con la colaboraci\u00f3n de una ONG y entidades gubernamentales. Asimismo, los l\u00edmites de las zonas fueron aprobados por una entidad estatal como principio de uso del territorio. Para controlar el aprovechamiento de la madera, se demarcaron las zonas permitidas como requisito previo y tambi\u00e9n las zonas para el uso agr\u00edcola y la de reserva. La implementaci\u00f3n del proyecto de aprovechamiento ha tra\u00eddo consigo la inspecci\u00f3n anual por parte de una entidad estatal, lo cual desde entonces ha imposibilitado abrir nuevas parcelas en las zonas registradas para el aprovechamiento de maderas tambi\u00e9n sacar maderas en motivo de negocio desde zonas agr\u00edcola. En este sentido, el \u201cordenamiento territorial\u201d demuestra su aspecto de tecnolog\u00eda de poder: demarcar la disposici\u00f3n de las posibilidades en ciertas zonas f\u00edsicas. Adem\u00e1s, est\u00e1n dispuestos \u201clos l\u00edmites internos\u201d, que supuestamente dividan la zona de aprovechamiento a los territorios de cada comunidad y sobre los cuales no hay ning\u00fan documento oficial, ni hab\u00edan existidos antes como costumbre. El nuevo negocio de madera es tan peque\u00f1o que no alcanza a beneficiar a todas las comunidades y lleva a la invenci\u00f3n de l\u00edmites internos para ordenar las posibilidades para acceder al beneficio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2605<\/p>\n<p>En la vida ember\u00e1 contempor\u00e1nea, se multiplican los l\u00edmites que restringen la movilidad en el territorio. Lo que hacen los l\u00edmites (o hacen con los l\u00edmites) es inverso a la movilidad del cimarronismo, que es la posibilidad de liberarse de un marco social de la posibilidad de \u00e9l mismo demarcada por otro. Sin embargo, esto no significa que el poder del cimarronismo se haya disipado en las vidas de los Ember\u00e1. En la contempor\u00e1nea, el poder del cimarr\u00f3n (o \u201c<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u201d entre los Ember\u00e1) se aparece otra entidad en diferentes contextos.<\/p>\n<p>La palabra\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0designa dos entidades distintas. Una es la que mencion\u00e9 arriba, un tipo de ser humano; otra es un tipo de ser animal, el cerdo fugitivo. Los Ember\u00e1 practican la cr\u00eda de cerdo por motivo principalmente econ\u00f3mico (consumo y venta), pero debido a ciertas razones t\u00e9cnicas, siempre dejan espacio del escape a los puercos.\u00a0<em>Chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0es el cerdo que se escapa del due\u00f1o y vive en selva. Se distingue del sa\u00edno (nombre para Tayassu tajacui en Panam\u00e1) y el puerco de monte (Tayassu pecar\u00ed), animales selv\u00e1ticos. Seg\u00fan los Ember\u00e1, el puerco\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0es m\u00e1s bravo y grande que el puerco dom\u00e9stico. Aunque ya no existen puercos cimarrones tantos como formar su colectivo, con frecuencia uno que otro puerco escapa y quiz\u00e1s vivir\u00e1 como\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>, seg\u00fan cuentan varios due\u00f1os, admitiendo sus propias capacidades limitadas en controlar los puercos. El cerdo siempre tiene la posibilidad de hacerse\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>, al menos temporalmente, es decir que no est\u00e1 predestinado a ser \u201csujetos\u201d del due\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>Se detecta la misma relaci\u00f3n entre el due\u00f1o y \u201csus sujetos\u201d en la pr\u00e1ctica cham\u00e1nica, en que el cham\u00e1n est\u00e1 en cargo de los esp\u00edritus, y en los discursos m\u00edticos sobre el due\u00f1o de los animales. Bajo todos los contextos, a la figura del due\u00f1o siempre le falta habilidad de mantener a todos los sujetos bajo su control. Seg\u00fan el pensamiento de los Ember\u00e1, al parecer nunca podr\u00e1n privar a los sujetos de su poder de moverse.<\/p>\n<p>El\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0como entidad de ser humano tiene sus propios predicativos, aparte de la calidad del antepasado de los Ember\u00e1. Se considera que los\u00a0<em>chimarrones<\/em>\u00a0tambi\u00e9n son seres actuales. Viven a lo alto de un r\u00edo o en lo profundo de las selvas, aunque no se sabe d\u00f3nde exactamente, y tienen pocas provisiones y crecen m\u00e1s alto que los Ember\u00e1.\u00a0<em>Chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0no s\u00f3lo como antepasado, sino tambi\u00e9n como entidad actual y separada de los Ember\u00e1. En este sentido, la figura de\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0acaso parezca como una persona selv\u00e1tica. No obstante, tiene otro predicativo importante. En ocasiones los\u00a0<em>chimarrones<\/em>\u00a0van por el r\u00edo abajo en las canoas hasta d\u00f3nde hay tiendas y regresan en las canoas llenas de mercanc\u00eda (queros\u00e9n, aceite, y sal). La riqueza de este personaje nos llama la atenci\u00f3n, porque es el oro el que genera la riqueza.\u00a0<em>Chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0se considera como el due\u00f1o de oro al que los Ember\u00e1 ya perdieron acceso. Es obvio que esta figura de\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0est\u00e1 vinculada a la historia colonial de esta zona.<\/p>\n<p>La riqueza expresada en forma del oro en los discursos sobre el cimarr\u00f3n podr\u00eda entenderse como un an\u00e1lisis por los Ember\u00e1 sobre los efectos hist\u00f3ricos de econom\u00eda mundial. Los Ember\u00e1 consideran que los yacimientos de oro se encuentran en un mundo subterr\u00e1neo y eso les ha impedido encontrarlos. En este sentido, los discursos sobre el\u00a0<em>chimarr\u00f3n<\/em>\u00a0podr\u00edan hablar de su posici\u00f3n parad\u00f3jica con respecto al oro, la riqueza perdida, ya que est\u00e1 la proximidad y al mismo tiempo, lo inaccesible para ellos. Recientemente en una comunidad donde aprovechan las maderas se ha escuchado una voz que habla sobre un diablo invisible que cuida la entrada secreta a un yacimiento de oro y que aparece donde fueron sacados unos \u00e1rboles de selva primitiva. Esto indicar\u00eda que la nueva econom\u00eda no les genera beneficios y podr\u00eda tratarse de una nueva forma de econom\u00eda del oro&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Pensar en los Embera en t\u00e9rminos de cimarr\u00f3nismo me conduce a mirar otras situaciones que sufren los Embera en Colombia debido a los efectos del conflicto armado y que los fuerza a desplazarse de las comunidades, en ocasiones a la totalidad de sus miembros. La movilidad de los Embera ha sido vinculada al tema complejo hoy en d\u00eda. Por ejemplo, hay un grupo que lleg\u00f3 recientemente a Panam\u00e1 como refugiado. De igual forma, los Embera que han expresado su sufrimiento a causa de la presencia armada en las comunidades, por las violaciones directas contra sus miembros y la restricci\u00f3n de alimentos e incluso el robo de cerdos (V\u00eda plural 2009, y articulo de El Espectador). Esto me induce a mirar el r\u00e9gimen de esclavitud que coloc\u00f3 alguna parte de los Embera en el papel de productores alimentarios.<\/p>\n<p>De todos modos, lo que indico con la figura de cimarr\u00f3n no es describir la esencia de un grupo \u00e9tnico en s\u00ed, sino apuntar a la necesidad de pensar en las vidas de los Embera por disposiciones de poderes por parte de distintos actores y en las situaciones concretas que ellos enfrentaron y contin\u00faan enfrentando: la esclavitud, el extractivismo de oro y de madera, el tratamiento de animales dom\u00e9sticos, el conflicto armado, el refugio y el desplazamiento interno, el ordenamiento territorial y el control de uso de recursos, entre otros. Adem\u00e1s de eso la misma figura de \u201ccimarr\u00f3n\u201d me lleva a pensar en los Embera en relaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica con los afrodescendientes en Am\u00e9rica Latina.
